Job Summary

The Clinical Outcomes Specialist supports and promotes the Cerebral Palsy & Neuromotor program initiatives across all of its clinics and interdisciplinary services, including clinical effectiveness, quality, regulatory compliance, clinical outcomes processes, peer review, clinical benchmarking, Information Technology integration of outcome measures, and research activities. Responsible for performing rehabilitation clinical measures, administering patient-reported outcome questionnaires, and tracking patient-specific functional outcomes to assess program and patient metrics. The role involves participating in health outcomes research design, data collection, and data analysis with support from the research department. Collaborates with research and clinical teams on original research, supports various research projects and quality improvement initiatives, prepares reports and publications, and presents at local and national meetings. Integrates clinical data with the Quality, Finance, Information Technology, and BI departments and evaluates patient care infrastructure to ensure compliance with clinical guidelines and organizational standards. Evaluates and treats patients within the scope of physical therapy as needed for program goals. Lastly, works on special projects as assigned in support of program goals.

Job Specific Duties

• Assists leaders with the facilitation and coordination of in-services (within department and/or across hospital) specific to evidenced-informed practices/literature review with a focus on clinical expertise/program outcomes. 
  
• Partners with Dyad Physician Leaders and Program Manager, as well as aligns with the Brain and Orthopedic Leadership Team. 
  
• Collects, analyzes, and interprets data for the Cerebral Palsy & Neuromotor Program to identify opportunities for improvement and recommends updates to enhance performance. 
  
• Works independently on complex projects to support program growth, efficiency, and operations in providing care to patients with Cerebral Palsy and/or Neuromotor disorders, including patient access to care. 
  
• Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop clinical competencies and care pathways/protocols to standardize and elevate the quality of care for the program population. 
  
• Supports the program in data reviews for decision-making, developing clinical outcomes, and process improvement measures. 
  
• Collaborates with the program manager, physicians, and stakeholders on clinical metrics and functional outcomes for the CP & Neuromotor Program, as well as coordinates with stakeholders to implement improvements to Electronic Medical Record content. 
  
• Participates in research related to CP & Neuromotor Center of Excellence (COE), including literature review, administering assessments, data collection, and analysis with the support/leadership of the research department. 
  
• Responsible for performing and interpreting functional tests for clinical and research purposes, including minimally detectable change (MDC) and minimal clinically important difference (MCID). 
  
• Explains research projects to subjects, multidisciplinary teams, and leadership. 
  
• Tracks subject performance, assists with data entry and management with support from research department. 
  
• Initiates and analyzes clinical research questions using clinical data and questionnaires. 
  
• Presents research findings internally and externally, including at conferences and academic meetings. 
  
• Assists with grant applications, assists with IRB submissions, and assists with reporting research findings to the IRB. 
  
• Demonstrates leadership as a subject matter expert (SME), documenting process/program improvements. 
  
• Collaborates internally and externally, consulting with physicians and healthcare professionals, and documenting outcomes. 
  
• Completes quarterly in-services on evidence-informed practices and participates in knowledge translation activities. 
  
• Conducts peer reviews incorporating evidence-informed practices into evaluation/treatment plans. 
  
• Participates in interdisciplinary meetings related to patient care and collaborates on best practices. 
  
• Maintains physical therapist competencies as per Rehab department standards, performing patient screens, evaluations, and treatments as needed to support the program. 
  
• Maintains ongoing communication with patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders. 
  
• Maintains continuing education credits in CP & Neuromotor disorders (minimum 50%). 
  
• Leads and supports COE presentations, publications, talks, patient/family support groups, and community outreach activities. 
  
• Leads or collaborates in developing a repository for storing, processing, and retrieving data. 
  
• Works closely with Clinical Research Coordinators (CRC) on research or quality assurance projects. 
  
• Collaborates on multi-center research projects with external institutions as needed with the support and leadership of the research department. 
  
• Assists in creating educational and communication tools related to patient care, IT, electronic medical record solutions, & reports. 
  
• Facilitates design and validation of clinical information systems to meet clinical and business needs. 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

• Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy
  
• Florida Professional Physical Therapist license - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  
• American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  
• Level II finger printing background and Good Moral Character Affidavit must be initiated within 15 days of hire date and finalized within 90 days of hire date
  
• 5 years of pediatric clinical PT experience (OR) 3 years of pediatric clinical PT experience plus ABPTS board certification in a relevant specialty area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Current APTA membership preferred
  
• CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) trained preferred
  
• Experience with grant writing
  
• Previous participation in research, program development, or teaching appointments related to pediatric cerebral palsy and neuromotor disorders.
  
• Prior record of publications experience
  
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with program members, physicians, patients and families and to assign duties and orient/train subordinate professional, technical and support personnel.
  
• Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  
• Able to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions

• Ability to manage multiple projects; strong time management/organizational skills are essential

• Experience with Microsoft tools, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Visio highly desirable, as well as basic statistical knowledge.
  
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of internal and external people, both in formal and informal circumstances, and where necessary to gain their agreement and acceptance
  
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  
• Demonstrates evidence of internal and/or external collaboration (i.e., inclusive but not limited to consultations to physicians and other members of the patient care team from other departments/disciplines) with documentation of implemented outcome in process/program.
  
• Demonstrates knowledge translation of evidence-informed practice through mentoring of peers and other health care providers across the hospital
